Dry Claw Pressure Pumps and Compressors

DVP claw pressure pumps provide clean, oil-free positive-pressure airflow for demanding industrial and environmental processes. They are particularly suitable where dependable continuous operation, efficient performance and reduced routine maintenance are important.

Unlike dry-running rotary-vane compressors, claw pumps do not contain carbon vanes. The pumping chamber uses two synchronised claw-shaped rotors that rotate without touching one another.

Because there is no contact between the rotating claws and no oil inside the compression chamber, internal friction and component wear are reduced while the delivered air remains free from process oil introduced by the pump.

How a Claw Compressor Works

Two claw-shaped rotors turn in opposite directions inside a precisely formed compression chamber. Their movement draws air through the inlet, traps it between the rotors and chamber wall and transfers it towards the pressure outlet.

The shape and timing of the rotors reduce the available chamber volume as the air moves towards the outlet, creating positive pressure before the compressed air is discharged.

The rotors are synchronised by precision gears. These gears and their bearings are lubricated within separate compartments, isolated from the dry compression chamber by seals and gaskets.

Protecting the Claw Compressor

Although the claw rotors do not touch, unsuitable contamination entering the compression chamber can still affect clearances, seals, operating temperature and long-term reliability.

The compressor should receive clean inlet air and must be correctly protected where airborne dust, particles, moisture or process contamination may be present.
