Dry-Running Rotary Vane Compressors

DVP dry-running rotary vane compressors provide clean, oil-free low-pressure air for industrial machinery, environmental equipment and process applications.

Unlike a conventional lubricated air compressor, no oil is used inside the compression chamber. This makes the range suitable for applications where oil-free air, compact construction and straightforward maintenance are important.

The range includes compact CB compressors for lower-capacity duties and larger CC models for applications requiring increased airflow and pressure. Current models provide nominal capacities from approximately 10 to 150 m³/h.

How a Dry Rotary Vane Compressor Works

A rotor is mounted eccentrically inside the cylindrical compressor body. Slots within the rotor contain self-lubricating carbon or graphite vanes that are pushed outwards during rotation.

The vanes maintain contact with the internal surface of the compressor body and create a series of enclosed air chambers. As the rotor turns, these chambers reduce in volume and compress the air before discharging it through the pressure outlet.

Because the carbon vanes provide their own lubrication, oil is not required inside the compression chamber. The incoming air must, however, remain suitably clean and dry to protect the vanes and internal components.

Low-Pressure Industrial Air

Dry rotary vane compressors are intended for applications requiring a controlled flow of relatively low-pressure air. They are not normally used as replacements for conventional high-pressure factory compressed-air systems.

Maximum operating pressure varies according to the individual compressor model. The required airflow, discharge pressure, duty cycle and system resistance should therefore be confirmed before selection.

Typical Applications

DVP dry-running rotary vane compressors are used where clean, oil-free airflow is required at relatively low pressure.

• Wastewater aeration and oxygenation

• Pneumatic conveying

• Printing and paper-handling equipment

• Packaging machinery

• Construction equipment

• Industrial blowing and drying

• Environmental process equipment

• Automated production machinery

• General low-pressure process air

Clean, Dry Inlet Air Is Essential

Dry-running rotary vane compressors should not ingest moisture, oil, liquid or unsuitable process contamination. These substances can affect the carbon vanes, reduce performance and cause internal damage.

A correctly sized inlet filter helps prevent airborne dust and particles from entering the compressor. Additional separation or alternative compressor technology may be required where the inlet air contains moisture or process contamination.

Why DVP?

DVP Technology manufactures a broad range of compact and industrial dry-running rotary vane compressors for machinery and process applications.

Customers benefit from Italian manufacture, clean oil-free operation and technical support from the Official UK and Ireland Master Agent.

Choosing the Correct Compressor

Selection depends on the required airflow, working pressure, operating hours, duty cycle, pipework resistance, ambient temperature and inlet-air condition.

We can compare these requirements with the performance of the CB and CC ranges before recommending the most suitable model.

Parts, Service & Repairs

Vacuum Pumps UK supplies genuine DVP carbon vanes, filters, gaskets and service components for routine compressor maintenance.

Our workshop can also assist with inspection, fault diagnosis, servicing and repair of dry-running rotary vane pressure pumps.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dry-running rotary vane compressor?

It is an oil-free compressor that uses an eccentric rotor and self-lubricating carbon vanes to draw in, compress and discharge air at relatively low pressure.

Does a dry rotary vane compressor require oil?

No oil is used inside the compression chamber. The carbon or graphite vanes are self-lubricating, although the compressor still requires routine inspection and maintenance.

Is this the same as a conventional compressed-air compressor?

No. Dry rotary vane pressure pumps are generally used for clean, relatively low-pressure airflow. They are not normally replacements for conventional workshop or factory compressors producing high-pressure compressed air.

Can a dry rotary vane compressor run continuously?

Many models are suitable for continuous operation when they are correctly sized, adequately ventilated and operated within the permitted pressure range for the individual compressor.

Can the compressor handle moisture or liquid?

No. Moisture, oil and other liquids should not enter the compression chamber. Contact us where the inlet air may contain condensate or process contamination so that suitable protection or alternative technology can be considered.

How often should the carbon vanes be replaced?

Vane life depends on operating pressure, running hours, temperature, air quality and maintenance. Vanes should be inspected at appropriate intervals and replaced before reaching the manufacturer’s minimum permitted length.

Can Vacuum Pumps UK help replace another compressor brand?

Yes. Send us the existing compressor model, nameplate details and application requirements. We can compare airflow, pressure, motor specification, connections and physical dimensions before recommending a suitable DVP alternative.
