DVP CBL System Overview

In a CBL system, the BCA lobe pump operates in series with one or more DVP oil lubricated rotary vane primary pumps. The primary pump initially evacuates the process and establishes the operating conditions required for the lobe booster to contribute effectively.

Once operating together, the booster increases the available pumping speed within its working pressure range. This can reduce evacuation time and allow the system to reach a substantially lower final pressure than the primary pump could normally achieve alone.

DVP states that a correctly selected CBL system can normally achieve a final pressure approximately ten times lower than the primary pump by itself, while also accelerating the evacuation of a closed vessel or process chamber.

How a CBL Booster System Works

A lobe booster is not normally used as a standalone vacuum pump in this type of installation. It is supported by the primary rotary vane pump, which handles the gas discharged by the booster and maintains the pressure differential required for reliable operation.

1. Initial Evacuation

The oil lubricated primary pump begins evacuating the chamber, pipework or process equipment from atmospheric pressure.

2. Booster Operation

As the pressure falls into the correct operating range, the BCA lobe booster increases the effective pumping speed of the system.

3. Faster Pump-Down

The increased pumping capacity can shorten the time required to evacuate a closed volume and help improve production cycle times.

4. Lower Final Pressure

The combined system can achieve a lower ultimate pressure than the primary rotary vane pump would normally reach on its own.

DVP AdaptShield Technology

AdaptShield is DVP’s self-adaptive control and protection system for the CBL range. It manages the relationship between the primary pump and lobe booster while responding automatically to changing process conditions.

The system is designed to protect the installation during critical events such as plant leakage, reduced performance and excessive operating temperature. Instead of relying solely on a conventional mechanical bypass, AdaptShield adjusts operation electronically according to system demand.

DVP states that this approach can reduce absorbed energy by up to 13% compared with systems without AdaptShield and by up to 20% compared with systems using a mechanical bypass. Actual consumption will depend on the selected system, process conditions, operating pressure and duty cycle.
