DVP DB2D Overview

The DVP DB2D is a compact double-stage high vacuum pump designed for sensitive laboratory, analytical and scientific applications.

Its two pumping stages operate in series, allowing the pump to reach a stated ultimate pressure of 0.005 mbar absolute.

A coupling drive connects the motor and pump mechanism, supporting dependable operation, long service life and straightforward maintenance.

The DB2D is designed for low vibration and reduced operating noise, making it suitable for laboratory benches, research equipment and analytical instruments where mechanical disturbance must be limited.

Standard equipment includes a gas ballast, transport handle, shock mounts, SW60 oil starter pack and solenoid-pneumatic non-return system.

Key DB2D Features

0.005 mbar Ultimate Pressure

The double-stage design provides the deep vacuum required for analytical equipment and backing duties.

Low Vibration

Shock mounts help isolate mechanical vibration from laboratory benches and sensitive instruments.

Quiet Laboratory Operation

The pump design supports reduced operating noise in research and university environments.

Solenoid Non-Return System

The integrated isolation arrangement helps protect the connected vacuum system when the pump stops.

Laboratory and Analytical Applications

The DB2D is suited to scientific and laboratory processes requiring stable high vacuum and low mechanical disturbance.

› Laser systems

› Helium leak detectors

› Laboratory freeze dryers

› Mass spectrometers

› Chromatography equipment

› Microscopy systems

› Vacuum distillation

› Gel dryers and centrifuges

› Laboratory autoclaves

› Space simulation equipment

Backing Pump for Ultra-High Vacuum Systems

The DB2D can be used as a backing pump for turbomolecular pumps, diffusion pumps and other high-vacuum technologies.

The backing pump first reduces the system pressure and then maintains the foreline pressure required for the high-vacuum pump to operate correctly.

The DB2D is best suited to compact high-vacuum systems with relatively modest gas throughput.

Vacuum Pumps UK can review the connected high-vacuum pump specification and confirm whether the DB2D provides sufficient backing capacity.

How the Double-Stage Design Achieves High Vacuum

The DB2D uses two rotary vane pumping sections connected in series.

The first stage removes most of the air from the chamber and reduces the pressure substantially below atmospheric pressure.

The second stage receives the exhaust from the first and compresses the remaining gas further before discharge.

This arrangement allows the DB2D to achieve a much lower ultimate pressure than a comparable single-stage pump.

Gas Ballast and Vapour Handling

The gas ballast admits a controlled quantity of air during the compression stage.

This helps reduce condensation of moderate quantities of moisture or solvent vapour within the pump oil and mechanism.

The gas ballast may be useful during freeze drying, vacuum distillation and laboratory drying processes.

Heavy vapour loads may require additional cold traps, filtration or a different pump configuration.

Solenoid-Pneumatic Non-Return System

The DB2D includes a solenoid-pneumatic non-return system designed to isolate the vacuum line when the pump stops.

This helps reduce reverse airflow and possible oil migration towards the connected chamber or analytical instrument.

Where complete chamber isolation is critical, an additional external vacuum isolation valve may still be appropriate.

Low Vibration for Sensitive Equipment

Analytical instruments, microscopy systems and leak detectors may be sensitive to transmitted mechanical vibration.

The DB2D includes shock mounts to help isolate vibration from the supporting bench or machine frame.

Flexible vacuum connections and a stable mounting surface can provide additional isolation where required.

Standard Equipment

› On/off switch on single-phase versions

› Manual-reset amperometric circuit breaker on single-phase versions

› Cable with Schuko plug on single-phase versions

› Gas ballast

› Transport handle

› Anti-vibration shock mounts

› Pack of DVP SW60 vacuum pump oil

› Solenoid-pneumatic non-return system

SW60 Oil and Planned Maintenance

The DB2D is supplied with a starter pack of DVP SW60 vacuum pump oil.

Oil condition directly affects lubrication, sealing and ultimate-pressure performance.

Moisture, solvents, vapour and fine contamination can degrade the oil and prevent the pump from reaching 0.005 mbar.

Vacuum Pumps UK and VacAir Superstore can supply SW60 oil, seals, gaskets, service parts and workshop support.

DB2D Selection Guide

Target Pressure

Confirm that the process requires a pump capable of reaching 0.005 mbar absolute.

Chamber Volume

The 2 m³/h pumping speed is best suited to small chambers and instruments with modest gas loads.

Backing Pump Duty

Check the required foreline pressure and gas throughput of the connected high-vacuum pump.

Gas and Vapour Load

Review moisture, solvent vapour and process contamination before selecting the pump and accessories.
