DVP BCA vacuum booster pumps are dry-running, positive-displacement lobe boosters designed to operate in series with a primary oil lubricated rotary vane vacuum pump.

By adding a BCA booster to a correctly selected backing pump, significantly higher pumping speeds can be achieved at low pressure, helping reduce evacuation times and increase throughput in demanding industrial vacuum processes.

The BCA range operates without contact between the two synchronised lobes and without lubrication inside the pumping chamber. Models are available from 279 to 3,465 m³/h.

DVP BCA Vacuum Booster Pumps

DVP BCA vacuum booster pumps are dry-running volumetric lobe pumps designed to operate in series with a primary oil lubricated rotary vane vacuum pump.

The two synchronised lobes rotate without contact inside the pumping chamber, transferring large volumes of gas from the inlet to the outlet without lubrication or contact-generated residue inside the compression space.

When correctly matched with a suitable backing pump, a BCA booster can substantially increase pumping speed at low pressure, shorten evacuation times and improve the performance of high-vacuum industrial processes.

A BCA booster must not be selected as a stand-alone vacuum pump. It requires a correctly sized primary backing pump and suitable system controls.

What is a Vacuum Booster Pump?

A vacuum booster pump is a high-capacity positive-displacement pump installed in series with a primary vacuum pump. It is commonly described as a Roots-type booster, lobe booster or mechanical vacuum booster.

Inside the BCA pumping chamber, two synchronised two-lobe rotors rotate in opposite directions. Their motion creates expanding and contracting volumes that transfer gas from the inlet towards the outlet.

The lobes do not touch one another and do not contact the pumping chamber. As a result, the pumping chamber operates dry, without oil lubrication and without residue caused by rubbing or mechanical contact.

The booster does not normally discharge directly to atmosphere. The primary rotary vane pump reduces the outlet pressure and provides the pressure conditions required for the BCA booster to operate effectively.

How a BCA Booster System Works

1. Primary Pump Starts

The oil lubricated rotary vane backing pump begins evacuating the chamber and lowers the system pressure.

2. Booster Engages

Once suitable operating conditions are reached, the BCA booster begins transferring a much larger volume of gas towards the backing pump.

3. Pumping Speed Rises

The combined system delivers substantially greater pumping speed in the booster operating range than the backing pump can provide alone.

4. Process Vacuum Is Reached

The booster and primary pump work together to reduce evacuation time and achieve the required process pressure.

If the booster is operated outside its permitted differential pressure, excessive load and temperature can result. Correct control is therefore essential, particularly during initial pump-down and process pressure changes.
